Prosecutors Say Police Sergeant Shot Son Over Vodka Dispute

A Chicago police sergeant has been arrested after he allegedly tried to kill his adult son for stealing his vodka and replacing it with water.

According to prosecutors, 48-year-old Raymond Leuser had stopped by a convenience store and purchased vodka, pizza, and popcorn. According to the report, around 2:30 a.m. Tuesday morning, Leuser's son drank three cups of the vodka, and attempted to hide the pilfered vodka by replacing it with water.

At some point, Prosecutors say, Leuser discovered the switch. When his son walked into the kitchen, Leuser  allegedly shot him in the stomach, thigh, and shoulders. The defense tried to paint a picture of self-defense pointing to a black eye that Leuser had. However, prosecutors say there were no signs of a struggle in the house.

Leuser, a sergeant with the Indian Head Park Police Department, has been charged with attempting to murder his 22-year-old son.
