Shocking New Details Revealed In Disabled Arizona Patient's Rape Case

The family of an incapacitated woman who was impregnated at a long-term care center in Arizona has filed a $45 million notice of claim and made shocking new allegations as they prepare to file a lawsuit against the state.

The woman's family says that when doctors examined her after she gave birth, they determined that she may have been pregnant in the past. The woman had been staying at Hacienda Healthcare since she was three-years-old and her family claims that she was "violently and repeatedly raped" during her time there.

They also accused the staff of failing to recognize that she was pregnant.

"Hacienda staff failed to accurately assess or diagnose the hardened mass in (the woman's) distended abdomen, her significant weight gain, and swollen genitalia and lower extremities," the family wrote in the notice of claim.

The woman's mother says that she asked the facility only to allow female staff members to care for her daughter, but they ignored her request.

Nathan Sutherland, a former nurse at Hacienda Healthcare, has been arrested and accused of raping the woman. He has pleaded not guilty to the charges and surrendered his nursing license.
